The nation’s best runners will descend on the City of Champions on Sunday, May 6, 2018 to compete for an event record prize purse totaling $85,000.

PITTSBURGH - Online registration for the 2018 DICK’S Sporting Goods Pittsburgh Marathon weekend of events will open on Tuesday, August 1 at 9:00 a.m. EST. This year the race will celebrate its 10th anniversary with an opening week registration event Aug. 1-4 that includes the lowest prices of the season, special deals and sponsor giveaways. More than 40,000 runners of all ages are expected to register for the event weekend, scheduled for May 4-6, 2018.

At the 9th DICK’S Sporting Goods Pittsburgh Marathon under first overcast and later sunny, cool breezy conditions on Sunday morning, Jacob Chemtai of Kenya and defending champion Ayantu Dakebo Hailemaryam of Ethiopia were the 26.2 mile champions in 2:15:25 and 2:36:20, respectively. In the UPMC Health Plan Pittsburgh Half Marathon Kenyans Cyrus Korir and Gladys Kipsoi took the titles in 1:04:14 and 1:12:09, respectively.
Under cool, damp conditions on Saturday morning, the UPMC Health Plan/UPMC Sports Medicine Pittsburgh 5K, Toyota Pittsburgh Kids Marathon, Sheetz Pittsburgh Toddler Trot and Rachael Ray Nutrish Pittsburgh Pet Walk opened the 9th DICK’S Sporting Goods Pittsburgh Marathon race weekend with a celebratory atmosphere. An event record of more than 15,000 participants as well as thousands of spectators, family and friends owned the streets of the City of Champions.
